The Story Behind CarryLinks

Behind every great tool is a story. CarryLinks didn’t begin as a company—it began as a personal struggle to stay organized online. What started as one professor and developer’s frustration with scattered bookmarks has grown into a powerful platform built to simplify, secure, and transform the way we manage our bookmarks.

From a Simple Idea to a Powerful Bookmark Manager

Ever saved a link and knew you would come back to it; only to lose it in a sea of open tabs, different browsers, or multiple devices?

    That used to be me.

I am Khaled Huthaily, a professor by day and a web developer by night, who—like many others—struggled to keep my online life organized.

As a developer, I worked across Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and even inside virtual machines—saving links for research, inspiration, or projects... and still wasting time trying to find them again.

As a professor, the problem followed me into the classroom. I often needed quick access to important teaching resources from my office computer and home setup. And sharing links with students became a constant chore—email after email, over and over again.

That is exactly where the idea for CarryLinks began.

The Problem: Why Bookmarking Was Broken

The more I searched for a modern bookmark manager, the more disappointed I became.

Most options were clunky or outdated. Some were visually polished but lacked essential features. Others were not secure, did not sync properly across devices, or simply did not give me the control I needed. I did not just want to save links—I needed to manage them.

So, in 2015, I started building my own solution: CarryLinks.

Turning Frustration into a Personal Project

What began as a side project slowly turned into something real. On August 16, 2016, I launched a beta version of CarryLinks to get early feedback. And over the years, I kept building, testing, and refining.

On February 16, 2022, CarryLinks officially launched its stable version—along with its browser extension and Progressive Web App, bringing powerful link tools directly into your browsing experience.

CarryLinks became not just a project I built, but a tool I relied on every day.

A Project Built with Heart (and Teamwork)

With the support of my wife, Amal — a talented graphic and layout designer — we turn the vision into a platform that is both beautifully intuitive and powerfully functional. Together, we built and designed something that worked not just for us, but for anyone tired of digital chaos.

As CarryLinks evolved, so did the journey behind it. So, we welcomed contributions from a few like-minded individuals who've supported the project in meaningful ways. CarryLinks remains a product of focused collaboration and a clear vision — driven by our dedication to helping people stay organized, productive, and in control of their bookmarks.

Khaled and Amal, the cofounders of the CarryLinks bookmark manager

As a web developer, I needed to save and organize resources from multiple browsers, virtual machines, and devices. With CarryLinks, I can save links instantly, import from browser history, and open entire folders in one click—making it easy to manage project links without chaos.

As a teacher, sharing links with students used to mean endless emails. Now I use my CarryLinks public page to keep my public links in one place. It is easy to update, accessible from any device, and saves everyone time.

    Our Goal: Simple. Powerful. Yours.

To make managing bookmarks as easy and intuitive as checking your email—while giving you the advanced features and control that most browsers and tools are missing.

CarryLinks was built with real people in mind. Whether you are juggling dozens of tabs for work, organizing research for school, or just trying to save useful content for later, CarryLinks gives you the tools to stay organized—on your terms.

    Built for Everyone, Everywhere

Today, CarryLinks is more than just a personal solution—it is a growing global platform. It is available as a website, a browser extension, and a Progressive Web App (PWA), so you can access your bookmarks anytime, anywhere, on any device.

We also built CarryLinks to be multilingual from the start—supporting Arabic, French, German, and Spanish, with more languages coming soon. Because staying organized online should not depend on where you live or what language you speak.

    More Than Just Bookmarks

CarryLinks was never meant to be "just another bookmark tool." We built it to be a smart, flexible, and secure system for managing your entire digital workspace. It is a bookmarking tool that you can use to:

    • Synchronize your bookmarks across browsers, devices, and systems
    • Import existing bookmarks
    • Import links from browser history
    • Save all open tabs instantly
    • AI summarize any webpage
    • Open all links in a folder at once
    • Smart search through saved bookmarks
    • Offline reading for saved articles
    • Create and scan QR codes for links
    • Take screenshots of webpages
    • Shorten links for easy sharing
    • Check link availability and safety
    • Sort folders and color-code them
    • Share individual links or entire folders
    • And more…

And the best part? CarryLinks works on all major browsers, operating systems, and devices. So, whether you are switching between a Windows desktop, a MacBook, or your phone, your bookmarks are always just one click away.

    Our Message to You

We built CarryLinks to make bookmark management simple, secure, and enjoyable for everyone. We have been where you are—and we understand the struggle. It is frustrating, time-consuming, and honestly, it should not be this hard.

CarryLinks is our answer to that frustration. We are constantly working to improve the experience, add meaningful features, and—most importantly—listen to the people who matter most: you. Your support, feedback, and suggestions are always our top priority because they shape the future of CarryLinks.

Thank you for being part of this journey. We built CarryLinks for ourselves, but we are incredibly proud to now be building it for you.

    The story continues—with you.
